Simone Smith September 12, 2022 Professor Slentz
Dear Professor Slentz,
Hello, My name is Simone. I’m writing this letter of introduction so you can learn more about me. I was born and raised in Far Rockaway. The hobbies I developed were reading and listening to music. While attending City College of New York I will be majoring in biology. My major will hopefully contribute to my future career. My future career goal was to be a veterinarian. However that all changed when I discovered that I’m extremely allergic to animals, more so the animals that have fur. I thought I could work things out if I take allergy medicine but that also wasn’t a very good solution. My career path changed from veterinarian to herpetologist or even marine biologist. I developed a love for reading because my parents were overprotective. I wasn’t able to go outside much. The friends I had created bonds with in middle school didn’t last long because I wasn’t able to participate in sleepovers or birthday parties. At the time I was really sad that I couldn’t attend but now I’m glad I didn’t. Reading was more fun. I also enjoy listening to music because when I was younger I wanted to become a singer. I remember being obsessed with Beyonce because we were born on the same day and I could sing too. I also gave up that dream. I did a talent show in middle school and cried while singing on stage. I’m cringing right now remembering the thought. Obviously, after that dream dried up like tears, I left on the stage.
With my love of animals I was able to convince my parents two get me pets. I have two guinea pigs, which I can’t hold but just looking at them fills me with joy and a turtle. My love for animals is what I hope to use to impact the world. I hope to one day have an animal sanctuary for animal rescue or even the animals that are going extinct. I want to help nurture those animals. I want to help them flourish, which is why I perceived a bio major appealing compared to psychology. I want to be more hands on than just observation of why animals are the way they are. The goal is to preserve the current ecosystem. Preserving it is important because climate change affects human nourishment, and enjoyment of future generations.
My goal for this semester is to pass with B+ and to not stress myself out. I tend to get stressed out very easily but it’s funny because I cause this myself. I am a procrastinator. I convinced myself that I work well under pressure which isn’t the case. Im working on not self sabotaging this semester. What my goal for this class is to learn how to write eloquently. I know in the far future I will have to write reports or even articles about animals and I believe this class will positively impact my poor writing skills. I’m hoping with this class i will be able to be on par with the scientist that write when thought out thesis about an experiment and even gain new writing skills that contribute to my goal.
Sincerely, Simone Smith
